What A Year

Wow, 2008 will be over in just a few hours, and tomorrow will start the last decade of the 2000s. It has been a crazy year (for me anyway). Let's see, I'm trying to figure out what happened this year.

WORK
I got demoted at work to a stock clerk. A couple of months later I got my job back working the customer service lobby. That was fun.

CHURCH
I started my tenth year at my church on a down note, then it started getting better,. Around the summer I started getting upset at church again and was trying to figure out why I was there. Then I decided that I was fed up with church (even the youth ministry, which had become my biggest passion in life) and wanted to leave. Then at the end of July, I came to terms with myself, and started talking to different people, and decided to stick around.

I then started to focus on something else I liked doing, which is making videos and slideshows for the church. Starting tomorrow, I will become the leader of the Media Ministry.

FAMILY
In September, I celebrated my 28th birthday. My uncle surprised me with a car. This meant that I had to get over my fear of driving. In October, I visited my other uncle in Utah. I did a lot of driving over there, which helped me get over my fear of driving.

I got an offer to move out there next year, which I am strongly considering. I don't have to pay rent. It is just beautiful out there. It won't be until the end of 2009.

I don't want to make this a long blog, so I won't make it any longer.
Happy New Year, everybody!

Ever Have One Of Those Da;ys?

Usually in December, little white objects falling from the sky isn't a big deal, especially if you live in an area where it snows. In Downey, a more disgusting white thing falls from the sky. I wish it was snow, but it's not. It's bird poo.

It's no fun getting pooed on. The last time I got pooed on by a bird was during P.E.in the eighth grade. The last time I got pooed on by a human being was about 9 or 10 years ago. I'm not gonna get into that story.

This morning I decided to go for a walk to Starbucks for some hot apple cider. I get in, order my drink, and start back. I'm walking and I feel a little thump on my jacket. I thought it maybe somebody tapping me on the shoulder. I looked and there was this marble sized white spot on my jacket. So at this point, I'm just thinking about getting home as fast as I can so I can wash my jacket. Then, over by Alameda Elementary School, it happens again. This time on my head. At this point I just want to go home.

On the rest of the walk home, I go down this street where I go past a pine tree, and what do you know, a pine cone comes down and hits me right on the back. I just can't win.

I Can Here Sounds!!!

So on a previous blog, I told you guys how I didn't have any sound on my computer. I've been trying to figure out what the problem was for the past couple of days. Then a few minutes ago I was talking to my good friend Paddy online and Paddy just told me to update the driver. So I did and it worked. Thank you, Paddy. Who's my buddy?

Most Creepiest Christmas Scene

So I was watching, "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" last night. There was this one scene that I never really focused on until last night. You know the one. You don't? Let me refresh your memory.

So Rusty brings Clark a cat that's been wrapped up on accident by Clark's aunt. Then Cousin Eddie brings over a leaking present that turns out to be lime Jello. That's not really the weird part. Then Ellen tells Eddie to go in the other room. Eddie then looks at Russ and goes, "Come here boy", then pretends to punch Rusty a few times while shouting, "Woo Woo Woo"! Here's the creepy part. He then says to Rusty, "Let's go find your sister".

Meryl!

So check this out. I am currently watching, "The View", and Meryl Streep and Amy Adams are on promoting their new movie, "Doubt". I don't know why, but Ijust realized RIGHT NOW that Meryl Streep has a strange name. I mean who would name their kid, Meryl? I don't think that when I have a daughter, I am going to name her Meryl. I'm done venting. Plus I have a weird crush on her.

My Bowie Shirt

So check this out. Today as I went into Best Buy, I heard this little kid around the age of five shout out, "Mommy Mommy, Look David Bowie David Bowie, Mommy Bowie"! The kid was pointing at my t-shirt with David Bowie on it. It was quite possibly the highlight of my day, and the most awesome thing ever.

In your face, Natalie Chandler.

Here's what the shirt looks like:

What's the Best Christmas Movie of Our Generation?

So I got to thinking about Christmas movies the other day. Then a question popped into my fragile little mind. What is the best Christmas movie of our generation. My grandparents had "It's a Wonderful Life". My parents had "White Christmas". For me, it's "A Christmas Story". If you are younger than me, maybe it's, "Home Alone".

Like I said, "A Christmas Story" is the best. If you have not seen it, It's basically this story of how this kid really wants this bebe gun for Christmas and everybody just keeps telling him, "You'll Shoot Your Eye Out".

I first discovered this movie about ten years ago. The movie was made in 1983, but for some reason or another, I had never seen it. I remember watching it for the first time like it was yesterday.

In my computer class we had a vote for which Christmas we were gonna watch. It was between "The Santa Clause", "Jingle All The Way", and "A Christmas Story". The class picked it and I fell in love with it right there. Then the class ended and we couldn't watch the rest of it. Later on, the whole family went to Hollywood Video. Were planning to get a Christmas movie. I told my dad that I wanted "A Christmas Story". He had never seen it so we got something the whole family would want to see. We got "Scrooged", and I got screwed.

I don't know why it took me so long, but I finally got it last year, and I have only watched it once since I got it, but it is a classic and it's my favorite Christmas movie.

Do you agree or disagree that it's the best? Leave a comment.

The Case of the Missing Humphries

A few years ago I walked into Rite-Aid and saw a "missing" poster with an old childhood friend of mine named Vince Humphries. When I saw the poster I was in shock that he was missing. A few days had passed and the poster was gone. Part of me thought he was dead. The other part thought he was safe.

I started thinking of him randomly during the summer, and as the high school reunion came around, I had asked my friend, Lindsay if he was at the reunion and if anybody had heard from him. She said no.

Then today I started thinking of him again and wondered if he was still alive. All of a sudden, I noticed a guy at Albys that looked a lot like Vince. I walked past him and he said, "Hey man, do you remember me"? and I was like, "Vince"? "Yep, and you're Chris Luna" he answered. I told him that I thought he was dead, and he told me that he was just living in Whittier.

Weird huh, God has funny ways of telling us not to worry about the little things in life.

What Christmas Means To Me

It's that time of year again. That's right all you lucky people, it's Christmas time. Today I got to thinking and reflecting on past Christmases. You see before I became a Christian, Christmas was all about presents and me getting disappointed that I would get something I didn't want in the first place. It's been ten years now, and I have grown to think that Christmas is more than just cool gifts.

First off, it's a time that Christians come together to celebrate the birth of Jesus. I started thinking to understand the true meaning of Christmas, you should have some idea of the birth of Christ. Sometimes we take the story for granted. You know, "Let's go to church, and then go home and open up presents". Not that getting presents is a bad thing. I freaking love to get presents. We do need to put the focus on something else. That something else is this wonderful story of a little baby being born to a virgin that would some day change the world and be the savior of us all.

Second of all, Christmas is a time to give. For a few years now, nothing brings me more joy than picking out a gift for someone I love. Be it a friend or a family member, I love giving a gift and seeing their faces when they open that gift.

So that's what Christmas means to me.

El Freaking Taco Part 2

I went back to El Taco today after work. I came, I saw, and I got my free my chicken quesadilla. Read my last blog so you will know what I'm talking about.

El Freaking Taco

So check this out. Yesterday for lunch, I went to El Taco (Which is spanish for, the taco) and ordered a simple order of taquitos and a coke. Now, it was super slow, and I don't know why but it took forever. Then more people started coming in and they were getting their food before me.

Twenty minutes went by and I finally walked up to the widow and asked for my taquitos. The lady at the counter told me that she forgot. Fortunately, the owner was there and he overheard and gave me back back my money and the taquitos for free. He even said that my food was on the house next time I came in. How cool is that?
